SWK 1600 - Community Engagement and Civic Responsibility

Prerequisite(s): ENG 1010

Description: This course focuses on providing a service learning experience by giving students real-world learning experiences that enhance their academic and civic learning while providing community engagement and promoting the public good. Lectures, readings and discussions are integrated with a required 90 hours of service at a community organization. Students will participate in a 3 week introduction to service learning and the role of student learner within the agency context, prior to  beginning the service learning experience. Students will reflect on social justice issues, analyze socioeconomic and political factors that affect their communities and apply their reflection and learning to their personal and professional development.
