Recreation Professions Major, B.A.


A grade of “C” or better is required for each course in this program to count toward the bachelor’s degree. Students should note that programs differ in the minimum grade required.

Current Adult, Infant, and Child CPR with First Aid certification or First Aid Basics and Community CPR certifications are required and can be obtained through the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or equivalent organizations. Online training will NOT be accepted as meeting this requirement. Students who would like more advanced training may substitute “Emergency Response” and “CPR for the Professional Rescuer” certification which are satisfied through completion of HPS 2060.

Outdoor Recreation


The Outdoor Recreation program provides scholarly instruction and practical experiences to prepare students as skilled professionals and leaders in the outdoor domain. The program provides an integration of theory and hands-on courses covering such topics as outdoor skills and instruction, environmental justice, risk management, and social justice, to name a few. Extended major, no minor required. Students must have a minimum of 120 credit hours to graduate from the University.

Note:


Current Wilderness First Responder (WFR) is required at the completion of the program. Students who would like more advanced training may substitute Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician (WEMT). ​
