Accounting Certificate

The Certificate in Accounting is offered by the department for students with prior degrees who want to meet the educational requirements to sit for the CPA examination in Colorado. The basic requirements for this certificate program include:
- A previous baccalaureate degree.
- Prerequisite and/or corequisite requirements of twenty-one credit hours of courses in other areas of business. These areas include, but are not limited to, business communication, business law, computer information systems, economics, finance, management, marketing, and statistics. No more than six hours may be in anyone of the areas.
- Proof that transfer courses meet the education requirements of the Colorado State Board of Accountancy.
- Twenty-seven credit hours of accounting courses with a grade of “C” or better. At least twenty-one credit hours must upper-division courses.
- Successfully complete a minimum of eighteen credit hours of accounting courses at MSU Denver while enrolled in the Certificate program.

Certificate Requirements:
A candidate for the Certificate in Accounting must satisfy the following course requirements: Electives
Nine credits of any other upper-division, accounting courses. Students may substitute up to 6 credits from the Master of Professional Accountancy (MPAcc) program, provided that they meet the prerequisites and obtain permission from the graduate coordinator or accounting department chair. Certificate students must have a minimum 3.2 GPA to register for graduate courses. These credits do not count toward the Master of Professional Accountancy (MPAcc) degree. Total Credits for the Accounting Certificate Requirements: 27
