A grade of “C-” or better is required for each course in this program to count toward the bachelor’s degree. Students should note that programs differ in the minimum grade required.

The following courses are required for all music majors:

*Students must enroll during each semester of individual instruction, and complete the requirement with a “Satisfactory” grade in order to be eligible to continue to enroll in individual instruction.

**Students whose primary instrument is piano must substitute MUS 261C and 262C, Advanced Keyboard Skills I and II, for MUS 161B and 162B, Class Piano I and II, in the core requirements listed above.

**MUS 3350, MUS 3351, and EDS 3150 must be taken concurrently.

*This course may be repeated for credit. Students majoring in music education must enroll in the major ensemble in their concentration during each semester of individual instruction or full-time residence (enrollment in 12 or more credit hours), except when student teaching, and they must complete the requirement with a grade of “C” or better in order to be eligible to enroll in individual instruction. Additionally, students are encouraged to enroll in a variety of ensembles outside of their major area of study.

*The major ensemble for the Choral Concentration: Voice Emphasis is choir (Chorale, Women’s Chamber Choir, Men’s Choir, or Women’s Choir) as assigned by the Director of Choral Activities.

*The major ensemble for the Choral Concentration: Piano Emphasis is choir (Chorale, Women’s Chamber Choir, Men’s Choir, or Women’s Choir) as assigned by the Director of Choral Activities.

Students in the Choral Concentration: Piano Emphasis must have at least 8 semester hours of choral ensembles.

Students in the Choral Concentration: Guitar Emphasis must have at least 8 semester hours of choral ensembles.

*For students whose primary instrument is woodwinds, brass, or percussion, the major ensemble for the Instrumental Concentration is band (Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, or Concert Band) as assigned by the Director of Band Activities.  For students whose primary instrument is strings, the major ensemble for the Instrumental Concentration is orchestra, as assigned by the Director of Orchestral Activities.
