A grade of “C-” or better is required for each course in this program to count toward the bachelor’s degree. Students should note that programs differ in the minimum grade required.

*Students must enroll during each semester of individual instruction, and complete the requirement with a “Satisfactory” grade in order to be eligible to continue to enroll in individual instruction.

**MUS 3350, MUS 3351, and EDS 3150 must be taken concurrently.

***MUS 4360 and MUS 4361 must be taken concurrently.

****MUS 4370 and MUS 4371 must be taken concurrently.

Ensembles: 8 credits


Six hours:

Students must enroll in the major ensemble according to their primary instrument during each semester of individual instruction and must complete the requirement with a grade of “C-” or better to remain eligible to continue to enroll in individual instruction. Students not studying privately but enrolled full time (12 or more credit hours) must also enroll in their major ensemble, except when enrolled in student teaching or one of the ensemble requirements below.

The major ensemble for music education students enrolled in private voice, private piano, private organ, or private guitar is choir as assigned by the Director of Choral Activities. The major ensemble for students enrolled in private woodwinds, brass, or percussion is band as assigned by the Director of Band Activities. The major ensemble for students enrolled in private strings is orchestra as assigned by the Director of Orchestra Activities.

Students must enroll in chamber music.

One hour:

Students with a major instrument in voice are required to enroll in Wind Ensemble (audition), Symphonic Band, Secondary Instrument Band, Symphony Orchestra (audition), or String Sinfonietta. Students with a major instrument in woodwinds, brass, or percussion are required to choose Symphony Orchestra (audition), String Sinfonietta, Chorale (audition), Womens’ Chamber Choir (audition), Women’s Choir, Men’s Choir, or Auraria Chorale. Students with a major instrument in piano or guitar are required to choose Wind Ensemble (audition), Symphony Band, Secondary Instrument Band, Symphony Orchestra (audition), or String Sinfonietta. Students with a major in strings are required to choose Wind Ensemble (audition), Symphonic Band, Secondary Instrument Band, Chorale (audition), Women’s Chamber Choir (audition), Women’s Choir, Men’s Choir, or Auraria Chorale (mixed).

General Studies: 33 credits
