Ensembles
Five semester hours:
Students enrolled in private lessons must enroll in the appropriate major ensemble during each semester of individual instruction and must complete the requirement with a grade of “C-” or better in order to remain eligible to continue to enroll in individual instruction.
For students whose primary instrument is a jazz instrument, the major ensemble is Jazz Ensemble or Jazz Combos, as assigned by the Director of Jazz Studies.
For students whose primary instrument is voice, the major ensemble is choir (Chorale, Women’s Chamber Choir, Men’s Choir, or Women’s Choir) as assigned by the Director of Choral Activities.
For students whose primary instrument is woodwinds, brass, or percussion, the major ensemble is band (Wind Ensemble or Symphonic Band) as assigned by the Director of Band Activities.
For students whose primary instrument is strings, the major ensemble is String Sinfonietta or Symphony Orchestra, as assigned by the Director of Orchestral Activities.
For students whose primary instrument is piano or organ, the major ensemble is choir, band, or orchestra, as assigned by the Director of Choral Activities, the Director of Band Activities, or the Director of Orchestral Activities.
For students whose primary instrument is guitar, the major ensemble is Guitar Ensemble.
One hour:
Students must enroll in Chamber Music.
