The Strategic Plan Developer badge is a competency badge offered through the Department of Management. Earning this badge demonstrates expertise in strategic planning, a valuable skill showcasing the recipient’s ability to help translate strategic vision into operational efficiency with ongoing evaluation.  

Earning Criteria

Participants earning this badge are required to submit academic works demonstrating success in completing core components of strategic planning for a company, firm, or organizational department - including analysis of the external environment, analysis of the internal environment, the development of SMART goals, the development of an Action Plan, and the submission of a complete Strategic Plan document (including Mission Statement, Vision Statement, Core Values/Guiding Principles, SMART Goals/Objectives, External Environmental Analysis, Internal Analysis, Action Plan for implementation of SMART Goals, Marketing/Communications Plan for sharing internally and/or externally, and informed recommendations).

Competencies Demonstrated

  1. Analyze the impact of changes in the external environment on the firm; including demographic, sociocultural, political/legal, technological, economic, and global segmentation analysis.
  2. Analyze the Industry Environment using Porter’s Five Forces Model.
  3. Examine the internal strengths weaknesses, and external opportunities and threats to the organization.
  4. Assess the tangible, intangible, and organizational capabilities of the company.
  5. Identify the organization’s competitive strategy.
  6. Differentiate between financial and strategic goals.
  7. Differentiate between short-term and long-term goals.
  8. Prepare short-term and long-term goals, and financial and strategic goals using SMART criteria (Specific, Measurable, Appropriate, Realistic, Timely).
  9. Develop an Action Plan to implement each goal.
  10. Completion of a Strategic Plan - including Mission Statement, Vision Statement, Core Values/Guiding Principles, SMART Goals/Objectives, External Environmental Analysis, Internal Analysis, Action Plan for implementation of SMART Goals, Marketing/Communications Plan for sharing internally and/or externally, and informed recommendations.
