The Trauma-Informed Practices digital badge is an achievement microcredential offered through the School of Education’s Office of Education Solutions. Students earning this badge participate in a series of interactive workshops offering trauma-informed practices, including understanding trauma and stress, cultural humility and equity, resilience and socio-emotional learning, and safety and predictability.

Earning Criteria

Participants earning this badge are required to take part in four interactive workshops offered by the School of Education’s Office of Education Solutions. Participants will provide written reflection documents at the end of each workshop that demonstrate understanding of trauma-informed practices. 

Competencies Demonstrated

  1. Understand the stress continuum and the biological stress response
  2. Understand the types of trauma and a trauma response
  3. Be familiar with the effect of trauma on brain development and the central nervous system
  4. Identify how trauma can impact learning, self-regulation, and subsequent behavior
  5. Recognize the effects of trauma on students, staff, and schools
  6. Apply trauma knowledge to your classroom and/or school
  7. Develop an understanding of Cultural Humility as a main tenet of trauma-informed practices
  8. Explore how the three core tenets of Cultural Humility can be fostered in teaching practices and educational communities
  9. Explore the intersection of adverse community environments with individual ACES
  10. Gain strategies for promoting trauma-informed school communities through the integration of Cultural Humility and equity
  11. Understand Social-Emotional Learning (SEL)
  12. Become familiar with CASEL and the 5 domains of SEL
  13. Increase understanding of empathy
  14. Identify personal triggers
  15. Identify and mitigate potential triggers in students
  16. Learn strategies for fostering resilience through classroom application of SEL
  17. Understanding grief
