Hospitality Leadership Major, B.S.

About the Program


The Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Leadership prepares students for leadership roles in lodging, food and beverage, event, and related service organizations. The curriculum emphasizes applied learning, operational management, and strategic decision-making grounded in contemporary industry practice. Students develop competencies in service leadership, business analytics, finance, marketing, human capital, and technology. One or more optional concentrations-Brewery Operations, Event and Meeting Management, Hotel/Lodging Management, or Food and Beverage-allow students to tailor the degree to their professional interests. The program’s flexible design supports transfer and part-time students while maintaining a clear pathway to degree completion.

Student Outcomes


  1. Develop a range of leadership skills and abilities for the hospitality industry, including responsible decision making, personal accountability, critical and reflective thinking skills.  
  2. Implement leadership principles and styles, group dynamics, and effective teamwork within a diverse hospitality environment.  
  3. Formulate strategies to enhance awareness and commitment towards effective citizenship and social responsibility. 

General Degree Requirements


To earn a degree, students must satisfy all requirements in each of the four areas below, in addition to their individual major requirements. 

Program Requirements


  • A total of 120 semester hours is required for graduation.
  • Comply with all University Graduation Requirements  for a bachelor’s degree, with a minimum GPA of 2.0 or above.
  • Students may complete the B.S. in Hospitality Leadership with or without a concentration.
  • Students must present verification of 600 hours of on-the-job experience. These hours may be secured through paid job experience, cooperative education, internships, or a combination of the three. 
  • Students must present Adult CPR certification.

 

General Studies Requirements: 33 credits

** Students will fulfill the global diversity requirement by taking an approved course within one of the following categories: arts and humanities; historical; natural and physical sciences; or social and behavioral sciences.

Students must select between the no concentration option or a specific concentration.
