The Special Education Added Endorsement Graduate Certificate program prepares students to become highly effective and culturally responsive teachers of students with disabilities in K-12 settings. This certificate program is intended for licensed or pre-service teachers interested in taking graduate coursework leading to an added endorsement in Special Education (K-12 Generalist) on their Colorado teaching license. Candidates who meet the admission requirements for this program are eligible to pursue the certificate; to be eligible for the added endorsement through this program, students must hold a valid teaching license in Colorado or otherwise provide proof of approval for initial teacher licensure in Colorado in an area other than Special Education (K-12 Generalist). Upon successful completion of this program, candidates will earn a certificate and, if eligible, be recommended for added endorsement in Special Education (K-12 Generalist) through the Colorado Department of Education.
The following coursework includes the required content and experiences necessary to meet the Special Education (K-12 Generalist) added endorsement standards required by the Colorado State Board of Education.
Students must review the program requirements with an advisor prior to enrollment, as well as maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.00. No more than two grades of “C” will be counted toward certificate or endorsement requirements. No grade lower than “C” will be counted toward certificate or endorsement requirements. Graduate courses taken at other accredited institutions in the last five years must be evaluated and approved by the graduate director. A maximum of 9 semester hours of transfer credit (with grades of “B” or better) may be applied toward the certificate.
