ECE 3610 - Teaching for Social Justice

Credits: 3

Description: Students will engage in a study of social justice as it relates to equity, the opportunity gap, and poverty and its impact on teaching and learning. Course content will include the critical impact of family and community partnerships; curriculum design; instructional strategies and assessment; relationship-driven classroom management; and teachers as learners, leaders and advocates for children. Course strategies are based on transformative learning principles that promote in-depth scrutiny of existing beliefs, values and assumptions. Best practices in teaching while being an advocate for social justice will inform students’ thinking concerning the power we have for making positive change.
