ECE 4000 - Differentiation of Literacy Instruction: PK-3

Credits: 3

Prerequisite(s) or Corequisite(s): ECE 3150

Description: Students will participate in lecture and a supervised practicum designed to extend students’ knowledge of literacy processes and effective teacher-student mediation. Students will learn to differentiate assessments and instructional strategies for young children experiencing difficulty in their classroom literacy programs or emerging readers indicated to be at risk. The theoretical foundation of this course lies in constructivist learning theory, which suggests that children learn how to complete a task and/or a skill, or set of knowledge by engaging in the processes required of that task, skill, or knowledge.
