Credits: 3
Description: This course provides students with a broad foundation for discussing music, race, and power structures. Building on ethnomusicological framing of music in or as culture, students are asked to consider how music can empower individuals and groups in the fight for justice. As a class, we investigate case studies drawn from around the world, with a variable focus on the intersections of European imperialism, the transatlantic African diaspora, Indigeneity, Asian Americans, and Chicana/o Identities.
