Applied Learning Center

The Applied Learning Center’s mission is to facilitate experiential and applied learning programs at Metropolitan State University of Denver by providing resources, training, and support for students, faculty, and community partners.

MSU Denver’s Applied Learning Center houses the Internship, Service Learning, and Undergraduate Research programs. In fall 2012, the Center for Urban Connections, formerly a standalone unit, was added to the Applied Learning Center.

These programs offer community and professional engagement opportunities for student growth outside of the traditional classroom environment. Internships, undergraduate research, and service learning represent “high impact educational practices” as documented by George Kuh and the Association of American Colleges and Universities. The Center for Urban Connections provides an infrastructure for students’ civic engagement activities and a link for partnerships between MSU Denver students and the Denver metro urban community.

Creating a single center to unify these programs enhances the work of all four programs and highlights the commitment of MSU Denver to developing a variety of learning experiences for students.
