Speech Communication Major, B.A.

- A senior experience course is required for all students in each concentration and will be selected in consultation with a department faculty advisor.
- Elective courses within each concentration will be selected in consultation with an advisor approved by the Department of Communication Arts and Sciences.
- Independent study, topic courses, and experiential education courses such as practica and internships may be taken in each of the program areas.
- SPE 1010 Public Speaking is required as the General Studies Oral Communication course but does not count in the semester hours for the major.
- A grade of “C-” or better is required for each course in this program to count toward the bachelor’s degree. Students should note that programs differ in the minimum grade required.

Basic Core Requirements
All majors/minors in SPE must take these four courses: Broadcasting Concentration
All Speech Communication majors must take SPE 1010 Public Speaking as their General Studies Oral Communication requirement. This course counts as a General Studies course but is not counted in the total semester hours required for the major.
Broadcast students are required to complete the SPE Core: Elective Courses
