The Bachelor of Arts in Modern Languages may be completed by selecting either Option I or Option II. Students are placed through advising into intermediate and advanced classes in each language on the basis of individual background and need. A grade of “C-” or better is required for each course in this program to count toward the Bachelor of Arts degree in Modern Languages. Students should note that programs differ in the minimum grade required.
The Modern Languages Major Option II requires a minimum of 60 semester hours in a combination of two modern languages: French-German, French-Spanish, French-Italian, German-Spanish, German-French, German-Italian, Spanish-French, Spanish-German, Spanish-Italian. (The first language is the primary one requiring 42 semester hours, and the secondary language requires 18 semester hours.) Students pursuing this option for the degree of Modern Languages do not need a minor.
For the primary language emphasized, either French, German or Spanish, students must complete a minimum of 42 semester hours of coursework at the 2000-level or above. No more than 12 semester hours may be taken at the 2000 level. To complete the 60-semester-hour requirement, students must take at least 18 semester hours at the 2000-level or above in a second language.
