ENG 3420 - The English Bible as Literature

Prerequisite(s): ENG 2100 or permission of the instructor
Description: This course is a critical study of the Bible in English translation with emphasis on the literary forms and cultural contexts of the books of the Bible, from the Tanakh (Hebrew Bible) through the New Testament. Students examine the historical contexts, narrative techniques, development of canonical versus non-canonical biblical text, and critical and theoretical evaluations of the Bible as a work of literature. Students locate and analyze literary criticism appropriate to individual texts and use those resources to write researched literary analysis.
