Description: This course explores the history of the Middle East and North Africa, with an emphasis on the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Topics addressed include: the geography and resources of the region; political control and governance; warfare and terrorism; the Cold War; the geopolitics of oil; Zionism and the Arab-Israeli conflict; and the continuing influence of lslam on state and society.
